How to build a fishing rod

This series of short tutorials shows you how to build a fishing rod using nothing more than the Rod building start up kit and our 2-4kg Estuary Rod Kit. These videos explain how to get you started easily, without over complicating things. 

Part 1 - In this segment we locate the spine of the rod blank and determine the placement of the reel seat and the guides.

 

 

Part 2 - In this segment we prepare the blank for the assembly of the grips and the reel seat.

 

Part 3 - In this segment we install the butt cap and the rear grip before moving on to the reel seat.

 

Part 4 -In this segment we install the arbors to support the reel seat then affix the reel seat.

Part 5 - In this segment we install the arbors and then affix the fore grip to finish the handle kit.

 

Part 6 - In this segment we install the rod tip, remember to align it to the reel seat hoods.

 

 

Part 7a - In this segment we show you how to do a simple bind over a guide.

 

 

Part 7b - In this segment we show you the simple way to start your bind with a "trim" of a different colour thread.

 

Part 8 - In this short clip you see how easy it is to align the guides, just make sure you do it before the epoxy is applied.

 

Part 9a - In this segment we prepare place the rod blank in the rod dryer and mix the epoxy.

 Part 9b - This is the final step in finishing your rod - applying epoxy to the binds. This is also the step that causes rod builder the most anxiety. This clip provides you with simple tips and tricks.
